The story so far
Last year I decided that I wanted to do the RBRR but not in any of my
concours winning cars and I also wanted to do this on a shoe string budget
so I began looking for a car.
My first success was that I was able to acquire a low mileage Triumph
Acclaim for less than GBP50 the Hi-fi fitted to the car was worth more and It
also had new tyres, Tax, MOT and Fuel in it what a bargain.
The best news of all was the Car passed it MOT with flying colours.
I then managed to persuade two friends to join me as co-drivers for this
event.
Being in need of some spares I placed a Wanted advert in the Club Triumph
magazine requesting spares and was inundated with requests to take away
whole cars.
I now have a reasonable supply of spares several donor vehicles and another
complete car that is MOT'ed until the end of October. However I am still
in urgent need of a rev counter cable and heated rear window switch we
could even collect them while doing the RBRR so please contact me on 0775
263 7788.
The car was running well and has now covered over 5000 miles as part of its
shake and rattle test in preparation for its first challenge in the Round
Britain Reliability Run. However I found the gearbox noisy and it was using
5 liters of oil every 200 miles. So using coomponents from donated donar
cars I have changed the Engine and Gearbox last weekend. In an attempt to
increase the value of the car and with no expense (joke) has been spared on
the car as I have bought a new oil filter, Air Filter, Oil and Spark Plugs
supplied by a local Motor Factors. I have also invested in two stickers for
the car, a rear window sticker that states "Drive It Like You Stole It"
well for a less than GBP25 car you just have to have that sticker and for the
dash board "Warning Do Not Open The Windows At Speed In Excess of 120 MPH"
well we can dream. They are confident that all this expense has more than
doubled the value of what they purchased the car for.
Thats it for now
Regards
Ashley Mills
